About the Club

The Bonfield Snowmobile Club (BSC) is one of approximately 250 local snowmobile clubs that make up the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC). We belong to District 11 of the OFSC, the Near North Trail Association (NNTA).

Our local club was founded in 1969 by John Foisy and has been going strong ever since. We were one of the pioneers in establishing the organized trail system here in Northern Ontario.

Our first club President was Edward Lamothe and the first snowmobile dealer in the Bonfield area was Sampson Sales.

Trails

Bonfield is situated adjacent to Algonquin Park, on Lake Nosbonsing. It boasts a population of approximately 2000. We are a short drive from North Bay, the hub of the Near North Trail Association (NNTA).

The Bonfield Snowmobile Club area consists of approximately 150 km of groomed trails. We have 8 bridges on our trails, the longest is 85 ft and the shortest is 24 ft. The highest point on the trail is 1250 ft above sea level and the lowest point is 900 ft above sea level. There are 6 ice crossings as follows: Lake Talon, Sheedy Lake, La Chapelle Lake, Turtle Lake, Lake Nosbonsing and Trout Lake.

Our trails are groomed on a regular basis, depending on the amount of existing and new snowfall. The average grooming season is approximately 14 weeks in length, which equates to hundreds of grooming hours per year. Thanks to the volunteers for their tireless efforts.

We now have a place that you can park your vehicle & trailer to access our trails, thanks to the owners of the Dinner Bell Restaurant & Motel. They are located at the intersection of Hwy 17 & Hwy 531 in Bonfield, which is on our trail BF201.

Permits

Like the OFSC, the Bonfield Snowmobile Club promotes "Buy Where You Ride" as a reminder that snowmobilers should purchase trail permits from the club that maintains the trails they ride most often.

Full season trail permits expire May 31 of the season of purchase. All permits are valid only in the province of Ontario and may be used for prescribed trails operated by the OFSC.

Revenue from all trail permit sales goes to the OFSC and its local clubs. Together, we invest these funds to operate, maintain and support over 41,000 km of OFSC snowmobile trails for your riding pleasure.

Please remember to support Bonfield SC when purchasing your permit online, by selecting our club when prompted.
